Sahitya Akademi award winners 2016

Sahitya Akademi awards, one of the prestigious literature awards of India has been declared. A total of 22 writers have been bestowed with the award for 2016. The winners were selected from 24 Indian languages by a total of 72 jury members.

The official announcement has come out on 21st December, 2016.

For Poetry:

  1. Jnan Pujari – Assamese
  2. Anju – Bodo
  3. Kamal Vora – Gujarati
  4. Prabha Varma – Malayalam
  5. Sitanath Acharya – Sanskrit
  6. Gobinda Chandra Majhi – Santali
  7. Nand Javeri – Sindhi
  8. Papineni Sivasankar – Telugu

 For short stories:

  1. Vannadhasan – Tamil
  2. Chhatrapal – Dogri
  3. Shyam Darihare – Maithli
  4. Moirangthem Rajen – Manipuri
  5. Asaram Lomate – Marathi
  6. Paramita Satpathy – Odia
  7. Bulaki Sharma – Rajasthani

For novels:

  1. Jerry Pinto – English
  2. Nasira Sharma – Hindi
  3. Boluwaru Mohammad Kunhi – Kannada
  4. Edwin J.F.D’souza – Konkani
  5. Gita Upadhyay – Nepali

For books criticism:

  1. Aziz Hajini – Kashmiri
  2. Nizam Siddiqui – Urdu

For essays and play:

  1. Bhaduri – Bengali (Essays)
  2. Swarajbir – Punjabi (Play)

They will be presented a plaque and a cash prize of Rs. 100,000. The plaque was designed by the Indian film maker Satyajit Ray. The plaque has a place in the national savings bond.
