The 89th Academy awards are just a month away. The final list of nominees was released on 24th January. The list comprises the best films of 2016. The announcement came from the Academy Awards in the late hours of Tuesday.
This year’s nominees saw a record breaking nomination of La La Land. The musical drama which has already created history in Golden Globes has been nominated in 14 categories. It is the highest for any single film equaling the nominations held by Titanic on 1997 and All About Eve in 1950.
Followed by La La Land it’s the Sci-fi flick Arrival and American drama Moonlight. Both the movies have been nominated in 8 categories. Six nominations of Hacksaw Ridge, Lion and Manchester by the Sea each, stood third in the highest nominees of this year.
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling from La La Land have been nominated in the performer’s category. Casey and Michelle of Manchester by Sea and Denzel Washington & Viola Davis from Fences were also been nominated in the same.
However for Indian fans, the much awaited Oscar nomination of A.R.Raham has missed out the final list. He has previously won the award in 2009 for best original score and best song from the movie Slumdog Millionaire.
The Academy Awards is the award given by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) every year for the best American movies. There are 24 categories in total. Each category comprises five nominees. The best film category and the makeup & hairstyling have exception, as the former might have five to ten nominees and the later three. This year’s best film nominees are nine in number.
The winners will be announced on February 26, 2017, it will be on air from 8.30 pm eastern time. ABC holds the broadcasting rights; in India it will be Star movies which will air the show.
